Krabi Multi-Day Trips by Length of Stay
How long you stay changes what Krabi is. Two nights is a beach-and-boat sampler, a week lets you add a second island, and a month of a visa-exempt stay turns it into a base for the whole Andaman coast. Ferry timetables change with the season, so the shapes and trade-offs below leave the schedules to the operators.
Two to three nights: one base, one boat
Pick Ao Nang as your base. It is the beach resort, the dining hub and the main longtail departure point. Spend a day on the Four Islands circuit or at Railay, and one day on land. Railay is boat-only, with the shared longtail at ฿100 per person each way from Ao Nang, and more after dark, so plan to be back across before the evening rate starts unless you are staying over. A night in Railay costs more than Ao Nang but gives you the headland at dawn. The two-day Krabi itinerary shows the pacing. You can compare Ao Nang hotels on Booking.com for the short version.
Four to five nights: add a second base
With four or five nights, split your stay. Take two nights at Ao Nang, then two at Klong Muang or Tubkaek on the quiet coast to the north, where the beaches are wide and the evenings calm. Add Railay by day, and one inland day to the hot springs and Khao Phanom Bencha. The four-day itinerary and the five-day itinerary fit this approach.
A week or more: Krabi plus an island
A longer trip can pair Krabi with Koh Lanta or Phi Phi by ferry. Check the current timetable on the day you plan to travel, and leave a buffer before any flight. Phi Phi can also be done as a long speedboat day from Krabi, and you can see Phi Phi day tours on Viator to judge whether a ferry is worth the effort. The rough months from May to October make sailings less reliable, so keep the date flexible.
Entry rules for a longer stay
Visa-exempt visitors from the US, UK and many other countries may stay up to 30 days for tourism, and entries under the exemption are normally limited to two per calendar year. Complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival, and only on the official TDAC site , since paid lookalikes exist. For visas beyond the exemption, check the UK government entry requirements or your own government.
Choosing the season
The monsoon runs from May to October, with rough seas, cancelled boats and rip currents. The longer your stay, the more weather days you will meet, so keep inland options such as Hot Springs Waterfall, Khao Phanom Bencha and a Thai cooking class in reserve. Always wear a life jacket on the water.
Tip: put the island hop at the end of the trip, not the start, so a cancelled boat costs you a beach day instead of a flight.
