Day 1: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Cistern
Book Hagia Sophia’s upper gallery for opening, EUR 25, the only visitable section since 2020’s return to active mosque status, closed around each of the 5 daily prayers. The Blue Mosque is free and steps away. Spend the afternoon at the Basilica Cistern , 1,950 TRY for the day ticket, and keep dinner in Sultanahmet.
Day 2: Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar
Topkapi’s closed Tuesdays, confirm on muze.gov.tr ; the combined palace and Harem ticket runs 2,750 TRY and covers Hagia Irene, worth a genuine half day for the Treasury. The Grand Bazaar is closed Sundays, 08:30 to 19:00 the rest of the week, with the daily Spice Bazaar as backup. Counter opening asks around 40 to 50 percent.
Day 3: Kadikoy and the Bosphorus
Take a Sehir Hatlari ferry across to Kadikoy from Eminonu or Karakoy, 15 to 20 minutes on an Istanbulkart fare, and eat at the fish market rather than a Sultanahmet menu built for tour groups. Return for your booked Bosphorus cruise, or repeat the public ferry crossing to Uskudar for a free version of the same skyline.
Day 4: Suleymaniye, Balat and a hammam
Suleymaniye Mosque, Mimar Sinan’s 1557 work above the Grand Bazaar, is free and far quieter than the Blue Mosque. Spend the afternoon in Balat and Fener’s pastel streets along the Golden Horn, then close the day at a historic hammam, roughly EUR 30 for a basic session or EUR 68-88 with the full kese-and-massage package.
Day 5: Galata Tower, Istiklal Street and Dolmabahce Palace
Climb Galata Tower first thing, roughly EUR 25-30, 08:30 to 23:00 with last entry at 22:00, for the classic Golden Horn and Suleymaniye skyline shot. Walk Istiklal Street down from Taksim Square, then take a taxi or bus to Besiktas for Dolmabahce Palace, the 19th-century Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus shore; the combined Selamlik, Harem and Painting Museum ticket runs roughly 2,000 TRY, closed Mondays, 09:00 to 17:30.
