A full week runs the entire 6 day route, Sultanahmet through Pierre Loti Hill, then adds a genuinely slow final day: the antique shops of Cukurcuma, one last ferry crossing, and no ticketed attraction on the schedule at all. If seven days feels like too much city, the 6 day itinerary drops this last day cleanly. Once you’ve done the city itself, Istanbul as a base covers the Princes’ Islands, Bursa and Edirne day trips this itinerary deliberately leaves out.

Day 1: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Cistern
Book Hagia Sophia’s gallery slot for opening, EUR 25, closed around each of the 5 daily prayers since 2020’s return to active mosque use. The Blue Mosque is free. The Basilica Cistern fills the afternoon, 1,950 TRY for the day ticket.
Day 2: Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar
Topkapi’s closed Tuesdays, confirm on muze.gov.tr ; the combined palace and Harem ticket, 2,750 TRY, covers Hagia Irene and deserves a real half day. The Grand Bazaar is closed Sundays, 08:30 to 19:00 otherwise, Spice Bazaar daily as backup.
Day 3: Kadikoy and the Bosphorus
Take a Sehir Hatlari ferry to Kadikoy, 15 to 20 minutes on an Istanbulkart fare, for a fish-market lunch. Return for the Bosphorus cruise you booked, or the free public-ferry version to Uskudar.
Day 4: Suleymaniye, Balat and a hammam
Free, quiet Suleymaniye Mosque in the morning, Balat and Fener’s pastel streets in the afternoon, a historic hammam session, EUR 30 to 88, in the evening.
Day 5: Galata Tower, Istiklal Street and Dolmabahce Palace
Galata Tower, roughly EUR 25-30, then Istiklal Street, then Dolmabahce Palace in Besiktas, roughly 2,000 TRY combined ticket, closed Mondays.
Day 6: The Arasta Bazaar, serious haggling and Pierre Loti Hill
The low-key Arasta Bazaar behind the Blue Mosque, a return trip to the Grand Bazaar for real haggling at 40 to 50 percent of the ask, and a cable car up to Pierre Loti Hill above Eyup for sunset over the Golden Horn.
Day 7: Cukurcuma, one last ferry and no ticket in sight
Spend the morning in Cukurcuma, Beyoglu’s antique-shop quarter, where browsing is free and the streets are quieter than Istiklal a few blocks over. Take one more Sehir Hatlari ferry crossing purely for the view, no destination required, and eat lunch wherever looks good rather than off a list. Use the afternoon to revisit whichever single sight from the week actually got under your skin, since a week in Istanbul always produces one, before heading to the airport with time to spare for IST or SAW, whichever side of the city your flight leaves from.
