Day 1: Arrival And The Odori/Susukino Core
- Land at New Chitose Airport (CTS) and ride the JR Rapid Airport train into Sapporo Station, 37 minutes for 1,430 yen. The shinkansen doesn’t reach here yet, don’t plan around one
- Check in around Sapporo Station or Odori, both sit on the airport-train line and all three subway connections
- Walk Odori Park, the Sapporo TV Tower (800 yen adult), and the Clock Tower
- Dinner in Susukino at Ramen Yokocho, try the miso ramen invented here at Aji no Sanpei in 1958, 900-1,300 yen a bowl
Day 2: Beer Museum, Nijo Market, And Mt Moiwa At Night
- Morning at the Sapporo Beer Museum, now 1,000 yen general admission as of 1 July 2026, plus 1,000 yen tastings

Day 3: Otaru Day Trip
- JR Hakodate Main Line from Sapporo Station, 30-40 minutes, 800 yen one way
- Walk the Otaru Canal and brick-warehouse district, browse glassware and music-box shops, sit down for sushi
Day 4: Maruyama, Red Brick, And Shiroi Koibito Park
- Morning at Maruyama’s park, Hokkaido Jingu shrine, and small zoo
- The Red Brick government building, reopened 25 July 2025, now 300 yen admission, with a new octagonal observation balcony
- Afternoon at Shiroi Koibito Park, 800 yen adult, hourly clock-tower shows 10am-5pm
Day 5: Niseko Or Rusutsu Ski Day
- This is the day that makes flying up here worth it if skiing matters to you at all. Rusutsu is the closer resort, roughly 90 minutes by car or a direct Donan Bus for about 2,600 yen one way. Niseko is the marquee international name, further out at roughly 2-2.5 hours, legendary for reliably deep, dry powder that draws skiers from three continents
- Both resorts sit close enough together that combining them on a longer stay is realistic, but for a single day, pick one and don’t try to split it
- Rent gear locally if you didn’t bring your own, and price the lift ticket and transfer together before you book, powder-day demand pushes both up fast
- Not skiing? Swap this day for a relaxed walk through Niseko village or simply extend Day 4’s pace instead, this is the one day in the plan built entirely around one activity
Do I need a car for the Niseko or Rusutsu day? Not really. Direct buses cover both, Rusutsu’s Donan Bus runs a verified 2,600 yen one way, and a car adds winter-driving risk for no real time savings on a single day trip.
Is 5 days enough to add Niseko without feeling rushed? Yes, as a day trip, not an overnight. You lose the après-ski evening and the second powder morning that an overnight buys you, but a single well-timed day still delivers real turns without reshuffling the rest of this itinerary.
