7 Days in Sapporo: The First-Timer Itinerary
Seven days is the full Sapporo trip: the Odori/Susukino core, Mt Moiwa, the Beer Museum, Otaru, a slower city day, a Niseko or Rusutsu ski day, a Jozankei onsen recovery day, and one flex day to close it out. Tighter schedule? Drop to 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , or 6 days .

Day 1: Arrival And The Odori/Susukino Core
- Land at New Chitose Airport (CTS) and ride the JR Rapid Airport train into Sapporo Station, 37 minutes for 1,430 yen. There is still no shinkansen up here, plan around flying
- Check in around Sapporo Station or Odori
- Walk Odori Park, the Sapporo TV Tower (800 yen adult), and the Clock Tower
- Dinner in Susukino at Ramen Yokocho, try the miso ramen invented here in 1958, 900-1,300 yen a bowl
Day 2: Beer Museum, Nijo Market, And Mt Moiwa At Night
- Morning at the Sapporo Beer Museum, 1,000 yen general admission since 1 July 2026, plus 1,000 yen tastings
- Lunch at Nijo Market, a kaisendon runs 2,000-4,000+ yen
- Late afternoon, Mt Moiwa Ropeway, arrive before sunset, combo round trip 2,100 yen, one of Japan’s “New Three Major Night Views”
Day 3: Otaru Day Trip
- JR Hakodate Main Line, 30-40 minutes, 800 yen one way
- Walk the Otaru Canal and brick-warehouse district, browse glassware and music-box shops, sit down for sushi
Day 4: Maruyama, Red Brick, And Shiroi Koibito Park
- Morning at Maruyama’s park, shrine, and small zoo
- The Red Brick government building, reopened 25 July 2025, now 300 yen admission
- Afternoon at Shiroi Koibito Park, 800 yen adult
Day 5: Niseko Or Rusutsu Ski Day
- Rusutsu is roughly 90 minutes by car or a direct Donan Bus for about 2,600 yen one way. Niseko is further, roughly 2-2.5 hours, and the bigger name for reliably deep powder
- Price the lift ticket and transfer together before you book
Day 6: Jozankei Onsen
- Kappa Liner direct bus, roughly 60 minutes, 960 yen from Sapporo Station, or the unreserved Jotetsu Bus route 7/8, roughly 75 minutes, 1,000 yen
- Soak, eat slowly, and treat this as recovery from the ski day before it, not another sightseeing sprint
Day 7: Furano Lavender Or A Sapporo Flex Day
- Traveling in summer: Furano’s lavender fields, over two hours from Sapporo, peak mid-July through early August, with Farm Tomita’s Lavender East field scheduled open 20 June-20 July 2026. It’s a long day, price your specific bus or train route before you commit, and treat it as a full-day trip, not an add-on to something else
- Traveling in winter, or skipping Furano: use this day for a second, unhurried pass through Susukino’s food scene, a deeper Nijo Market visit, or simply sleeping in before your flight
- Depart via the JR Rapid Airport train back to New Chitose, 37 minutes, and build real buffer time, winter storms grounded roughly 126 flights here in a single January 2026 blizzard
Is Furano worth the trip on a 7-day Sapporo itinerary? Only in summer, and only if you can dedicate the whole day to it. Over two hours each way makes it a genuine commitment, not a casual add-on, and outside the mid-July-to-early-August bloom window it’s not worth the drive at all.
What if my 7 days fall entirely in early February? Restructure around the Snow Festival instead of forcing this exact plan. Spend Day 1’s evening and part of Day 2 at Odori Park’s sculptures by daylight and Susukino’s illuminated ice by night, keep the Beer Museum, Mt Moiwa, and Otaru days as planned, and swap the Niseko day for pure powder skiing since the festival crowds will already dominate the city center regardless.
By day seven you’ve earned the flex day, whatever you spend it on. The one rule worth keeping even here: don’t schedule anything that requires being somewhere at a fixed time close to your flight home, Sapporo’s winter weather doesn’t care about your itinerary.
