3 Days in Phuket: First-Timer Plan
Heads up: some links here are affiliate links. Book or buy through them and we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only point you to things we would actually use.
Three days covers Phuket’s beach-and-culture core plus one island day trip, this plan uses Kata as the base.
Day 1: Arrive and settle into the beach
Land at HKT and take a Grab or Bolt south, not Uber, there is none in Thailand. Spend the afternoon at the beach. West-coast beaches carry a genuine monsoon warning May through October: a red flag means no swimming.
Day 2: Old Town, Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, sunset
Morning in Phuket Old Town, Thalang Road and Soi Romanee, then the Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill, free with donations and an enforced dress code (its access road has a 2024-landslide closure history, so confirm current access). Wat Chalong in the afternoon, then Promthep Cape for sunset.
Day 3: Phi Phi Islands day trip
An early departure from Rassada Pier (speedboat about 1 hour, ferry about 2) gets you to Phi Phi Don and Leh. Maya Bay reopened under permanent rules: boats land at Loh Samah Bay, you wade in knee-deep, visitor numbers cap around 380, and it closes annually Aug 1 to Sep 30, so verify current dates before booking. Back in the evening, spend it in Old Town rather than rushing to another beach, the Sunday-evening Lard Yai market is worth timing your dinner around if your dates line up.
