4 Days in Phuket: First-Timer Plan

Four days fits both of Phuket’s big boat day trips onto the 2 day beach-and-culture core, based here from Kata.

Day 1: Arrive and settle into the beach

Land at HKT, ride a Grab or Bolt south, and spend the afternoon at the beach. A red flag on any west-coast beach, May through October, means no swimming, monsoon rip currents are a real yearly risk here.

Day 2: Old Town, Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, sunset

Phuket Old Town’s Thalang Road and Soi Romanee in the morning, this is the same street culture that earned Phuket its UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy status in 2015. The Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill next (confirm current access given its 2024-landslide closure history), then Wat Chalong, then Promthep Cape for sunset.

Day 3: Phi Phi Islands day trip

Speedboat or ferry from Rassada Pier to Phi Phi Don and Leh. Maya Bay’s reopened rules cap visitors around 380 at a time and close the bay annually Aug 1 to Sep 30, verify current dates before you book.

Day 4: Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island

A second full-day trip: limestone karsts, Khao Phing Kan’s James Bond Island from 1974’s The Man with the Golden Gun, the stilted village of Koh Panyee, and sea-kayaking through tidal cave hongs. If two big boat days back-to-back sounds like too much, swap this for a slower beach day instead, both are honest options at this length.
